In september, The Glenlivet<\/strong> released\u00a0The Winchester Collection<\/strong>: the world\u2019s first series of rare and precious 50 year old single malt Scotch whiskies<\/strong> from the single malt<\/strong> that started it all. Already anticipated to become one of the most sought after whisky<\/strong> on the planet, \u201cVintage 1964<\/strong>\u201d is the first release from this exquisite collection.<\/p>\n

Vintage 1964<\/h2>\n

Priced at $25,000 each, Vintage 1964<\/strong> is an outstanding 50 year old single malt whisky<\/strong>.\u00a0Named after The Glenlivet<\/strong>\u2019s current master distiller, Alan Winchester<\/strong>, the whisky<\/strong> was first put into casks for maturation in April 1964 by Captain Bill Smith-Grant,\u00a0the last remaining descendent of The Glenlivet<\/strong> distillery\u2019s founder, George Smith.<\/p>\n

This cask of exceptional quality, made of American oak seasoned with Bourbon, has created a symphony of distinctive flavours, full of the signature fruity notes of The Glenlivet<\/strong>, intensified with age. Ripe pears, oranges and black cherries create an intriguing flavour, while smooth, creamy toffee notes give a rich, velvety texture.<\/p>\n

In the background, hints of caramelised sugar entice the taste buds and endure on the palate, creating the sort of whisky<\/strong> that legends are made of.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Winchester<\/strong> comments: \u201cThis release marks a milestone for The Glenlivet<\/strong>. Casks of this age and quality are such a rare thing these days that I\u2019m immensely proud to introduce the first of these rare vintages of preserved stocks from the distillery\u2019s rich past. They\u2019re a testament to our legacy of quality and to those who have nurtured this whisky<\/strong> over the years, including Captain Bill Smith-Grant, who played such a pivotal role introducing our single malt<\/strong> to the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

Outstanding Packaging<\/h2>\n

Befitting its price tag, no expense or attention to craftsmanship has been spared in creating the perfect vessel to house it, with every element hand-crafted by artisans from the British Isles, from hand-blown glass, to the inclusion of precious materials such as rose gold and \u2018Cairngorm Stone\u2019.<\/p>\n

Acclaimed Scottish glass artists Nichola Burns and Brodie Nairn have created a decanter design, inspired by The Glenlivet<\/strong>\u2019s glorious history. Completing the decanter is a jewel-like stopper, designed by internationally acclaimed silversmith Richard Fox.<\/p>\n

Completing the craft and expertise for Vintage 1964 <\/strong>is a presentation cabinet designed by award-winning furniture maker, John Galvin. Galvin has applied traditional cabinet-making techniques to a contemporary design, resulting in a beautiful, bespoke piece that will stand the test of time, just like the rare and precious liquid that is housed inside.<\/p>\n

Just 100 bottles of this remarkable Speyside single malt<\/strong>, priced at $25,000 each, will go on sale around the world, with the very first bottle \u2013 Bottle No 1 \u2013 going on sale at one of the world\u2019s most prestigious retailers, Harrods<\/strong>, from this October. An undisclosed number of further releases from The Winchester Collection<\/strong> will then follow, with \u201cVintage 1966<\/strong>\u201d confirmed to be next in line.<\/p>\n
