At Baselworld 2015,\u00a0TAG Heuer<\/strong>\u00a0has announced the Monaco V4 Phantom<\/strong> watch.\u00a0Totally black. Totally matt. Stylish. Uncompromising. Almost stealthy. A love letter to Black.<\/p>\n

Monaco: a legendary watch<\/h2>\n

The first Monaco V4<\/strong> was unveiled eleven years ago, in 2004.<\/p>\n

The name V4 refers to the V-shaped main\u00a0plate which carries the four barrels mounted in two adjacent pairs on ball bearings.<\/p>\n

Angled at +\/-13\u00b0, they\u00a0are reminiscent of the cylinders in a Formula 1 engine. With its belt transmission and linear weight, which\u00a0moves on a straight rail (patented) rather than the usual rotational movement, the Monaco V4<\/strong> turns the\u00a0fundamental principles of horological mechanics on their head.<\/p>\n

Housed in the square case of the Monaco\u00a0worn by Steve McQueen in the unforgettable film Le Mans, in 1971, the first Monaco V4<\/strong> was awarded the\u00a0Red Dot Design Award in Germany, the Watch of the Year prize by Wallpaper magazine and the Best of\u00a0What\u2019s New prize by Popular Science magazine.<\/p>\n

All Black<\/h2>\n

Totally black. Totally matt. Stylish. Uncompromising. Almost stealthy.<\/p>\n

Made entirely from carbon\u00a0fibre, its case, as well as the 7 bridges of its legendary movement, which is equipped with the\u00a0famous microscopic toothed micro-belt transmission (the size of a hair, no wider than 0.07 mm)\u00a0with its linear weight which moves on a rail and its ball bearings: let us introduce the Monaco V4\u00a0Phantom<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The new feature of the 2015 version is found on the case, which is made from CMC (Carbon\u00a0Matrix Composite) and the 7 bridges of its movement, also in CMC. A specific technique was\u00a0used to create them in \u201cdirected carbon\u201d, which means that the carbon fibres are placed in a\u00a0certain direction in the mould, then micro-blasted, giving them a regular and particularly elegant\u00a0\u201cmatt black vertical brushed\u201d appearance.<\/p>\n

The entire dial is composed of shades of dark grey and\u00a0black. For example, the hands are faceted and satin-finished, with a Titanium Carbide Coating\u00a0and anthracite grey SuperLuminova\u2122.<\/p>\n

Only the jewels (a total of 48 stones in the movement)\u00a0reveal discreet little touches of red.<\/p>\n

Combining a cutting-edge mechanical movement design, technical performance using carbon\u00a0fibre and horological expertise in the development, production and hand assembly at TAG Heuer<\/strong>\u00a0in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, the Monaco V4 Phantom<\/strong> is a stylish, modern version which\u00a0is ultra-lightweight and offers extra shock resistance.<\/p>\n

Its sharp design is particularly unusual for a\u00a0grand complication watch.<\/p>\n

The 41mm TAG Heuer Monaco V4 Phantom<\/strong> will be subject to an initial run of 50 pieces and will be priced at $45,000.<\/p>\n
