Positioned front and center on Hood Bay, residents and guests are treated to a daily theater of wildlife.  Bald Eagles and Ravens soar above, routinely catching fish right off the shoreline.  A little further out in the bay are Humpback Whales, Killer Whales and Sea Lions.

The main creek at the head of the North Arm of Hood Bay is a duck hunter’s paradise, as many species of waterfowl frequent the area.  And during the fall migration witness flights of Teal, Mallards, Gadwall, Widgeon, and occasionally a few Pintail, Snow Geese or a flock of Swan. An uplands hike will almost always include sightings of Brown Bear, Deer or Grouse.  From sea to sky this ecosystem is forever preserved as life perfect balance.

Moreover, the world-class fishing is right outside your door.  Sited on one of the historically most productive fish cannery locations, it’s not surprising that Hood Bay literally teems with fish – not to mention abundant Dungeness, King and Snow crab as well as prawns.

Exterior

Designed by German architect Manfred Hecker Dusseldorf, the Hidden Bay Retreat is a 220 m2 chalet built of solid knot-free, heartwood timbers custom milled from old growth Western Red Cedars. The entire structure is built upon concrete pilings and suspend the home above the natural vegetation.  A dramatic roof overhang and all-copper roof and gutter system provides ample protection in all seasons.

Enjoy an additional 205 m2 of exterior living area with terraces that offer hanging swing chairs and lead to an integrated hot tub. The all-natural finish provides for a beautiful natural patina and ultra-low maintenance.

Interior

With interiors by Uwe Stoecker Dusseldorf, the Hidden Bay Retreat chalet is comprised of three private bedrooms and a playful loft above the living room to accommodate up to nine guests comfortably.  The formal great room features a towering cathedral ceiling with exposed beams and a monumental, all-steel fireplace.  Flooring is 100% wool carpeting custom loomed from New Zealand Black Sheep.

A chef’s kitchen boasts all modern conveniences by Gaggenau and includes gas cooking and a spacious walk-in pantry. Each of the three bathrooms boasts a European standard including Durovit, Axor and Hansgrohe plumbing specifications – not to mention a gracious, six-person Finlandia sauna. Most notably along the water’s edge and below the main residence, behold a monumental outdoor fireplace turned work-of-art landmark, which promises hours of fireside storytelling under the stars.

The Hidden Bay Retreat is offered at US$ 4.75 million (optional water vessels located on site could be included in a purchase transaction.)
