BR-X1 Chronograph Tourbillon: Bell & Ross changes its universe now turning itself towards marine

If we are use to contemplate Bell & Ross models referring to aviation world that has been the brand’s passion since its debut, this time the new collection called Instruments de Marine transports us into another universe. The centrepiece of this collection is the BR-X1 Chronograph Tourbillon in rose gold that plunges us into the biggest ships’ history.

Marine instruments’ extreme precision

BR-X1 Chronograph Tourbillon draws its essence in XVII century and the marine world. Inspired by the clocks that have marked naval history, the watch is a contemporary interpretation of these traditional and extremely precise tools.

Considered as the time base for navigation, these marine tools were essential for the success of the expeditions. At that time, shipwrecks were frequents because of a bad calculation of the time and ships needed more precise horlogical instruments. This is how John Harrison created a mythical clock with unrivalled precision, which form the basis of BR-X1 Chronograph Tourbillon, with the difference that this one could be worn on the wrist.

Noble materials from marine world

Alike former ships’ clock, BR-X1 Chronograph Tourbillon is represented as a circle in a square. Most remarkable materials have been selected to compose the three pieces of this collection, and the most beautiful of them, the BR-X1 Chronograph Tourbillon in rose gold.

Each piece in Instruments de Marine collection uses a special wood that reminds us the ships’ mat and hull, like BR-X1 Chronograph Tourbillon. This wood is called Palissandre des Indes and is composed with very thin grains, representing an elegant texture and warm rose/red colour. This wood is also extremely resistant. Then, unlike the other models from the same collection, BR-X1 Chronograph Tourbillon is also made with 18K rose gold that perfectly matches Palissandre’s colour.

Concerning the mechanism, BR-X1 Chronograph Tourbillon is equipped with a hand wound tourbillon, also considered as the ultimate complication in watch industry. On the dial you can see a classical central hands indicated hours and minutes, but also two gilt metal counter discs, at 2 and 10 o’clock, as well as a 60-seconds and 30-minutes counters with its semi-instantaneous jumping hand.

Then, BR-X1 Chronograph Tourbillon is also a skeleton watch that allows observing the impressive movement of the chronoghraph, composed with 282 small pieces. This flying tourbillon is located in a suspended cage and seems to be floating in the air. The watch also has a consequent power reserve of 100 hours (4 days). On the cage, connoisseurs will easily identify the brand’s emblematic “&”.

BR-X1 Chronograph Tourbillon as well as the other models from the same collection: BR 01 and BR-X1 Skeleton Chronograph all have a sapphire crystal case-back for the sublime mechanism to be appreciated.

BR-X1 Chronograph Tourbillon will be limited to 20 unique units.
