Louis Vuitton Flying Tourbillon « Poinçon de Genève »: the watch that defies gravity

Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton, the brand with the famous initials’ watchmaker, has just brilliantly succeeded in obtaining its first “Poinçon de Geneve” certification, with the Flying Tourbillon watch.

The highest degree of recognition in watchmaking

The LV Flying Tourbillon represents another step in the house’s watchmaking expertise. This contemporary skeleton tourbillon has entered the very private circle of the “Poinçon de Genève” certified watches, the ultimate mastery recognition.

The “Poinçon de Genève” (Geneva Seal) is the highest degree of certification from the Canton of Geneva. It means that after a meticulous observation of all LV Flying Tourbillon’s components and fabrication levels, each of its sides were carefully verified and certified. For the first time in the brand’s history, Louis Vuitton’s watch can wear the prestigious seal, visible on the watch’s face, which means the most prestigious stamping that a watch can have. That also means that every component should be decorated, and that is the case for every finishes of the LV Flying Tourbillon.

Incredible and contemporary finishes

For example the V of the tourbillon’s cage at 6 o’clock is entirely block-polished, that reminds us a mirror-like shine. The movement bridges are brushed until the invisible pieces of the watch, also recovered by other elements are circular-grained or carefully finished by the watchmaker. These mirror finishes are also represented in other elements of the LV Flying Tourbillon, such as its case and its bezel.

The most remarkable element in the LV Flying Tourbillon stands in its movement, that is, as its name suggests, the brand’s most aerial conception. Indeed, the watch’s components seem like suspended in the air, supported by invisible forces. Skeleton watches are fundamental to Louis Vuitton’s house, but this one seems to be floating into its platinum case. This aerial impression comes from the fact that Louis Vuitton only used 168 components for this watch, as minimalist as light.

Minimalist and sophisticated

To let transparency and vacuum predominate in the LV Flying Tourbillon, Louis Vuitton has created a new tourbillon that rotates on itself every minute, which is of the flying type, only supported from below. Then the case projects a V towards the onlooker. And it is thanks to the V letter that Louis Vuitton impose its identity on structural elements of this this hand-wound movement and its 80 hours of autonomy.

Extremely thin, LV Flying Tourbillon was designed to embrace the wrist’s shapes and integrates itself perfectly to the rest of your body. The empty sensation that represents this watch is giving it a minimalist but still sophisticated look. It is surely a piece that every watch lover will want to possess in their collection!
